Section 3 - Hazards Identification

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW

Appearance: dark brown flakes.
Harmful if swallowed, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin. Causes respiratory tract irritation. Causes eye and skin irritation. Marine pollutant.
Target Organs: Blood.

Potential Health Effects
Eye: Causes eye irritation. Eye damage may be delayed. Causes redness and pain.
Skin: Causes skin irritation. May cause skin sensitization, an allergic reaction, which becomes evident upon re-exposure to this material. Absorption into the body may cause cyanosis (bluish discoloration of skin due to deficient oxygenation of the blood). Causes redness and pain. Toxic in contact with skin.
Ingestion: May cause irritation of the digestive tract. Poison by ingestion. May cause nausea and vomiting.
Inhalation: Causes respiratory tract irritation. Toxic if inhaled. May cause nausea, dizziness, and headache.
Chronic: May cause liver and kidney damage. Absorption into the body leads to the formation of methemoglobin which in sufficient concentrations causes cyanosis (bluish discoloration of skin due to deficient oxygenation of the blood).

Section 4 - First Aid Measures

Eyes: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid imme diately.
Skin: Get medical aid immediately. Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.
Ingestion: Get medical aid immediately. Wash mouth out with water.
Inhalation: Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen.
Notes to Physician: Treat symptomatically and supportively.

Section 5 - Fire Fighting Measures

General Information: As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. Use water spray to keep fire-exposed containers cool. Approach fire from upwind to avoid hazardous vapors and toxic decomposition products.
Extinguishing Media: Water or foam may cause frothing. Use water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or chemical foam.
Flash Point: 166 deg C ( 330.80 deg F)
Autoignition Temperature: 540 deg C ( 1,004.00 deg F)

Upper: Not available.
NFPA Rating: (estimated) Health: 3; Flammability: 1; Instability: 0

Section 6 - Accidental Release Measures

General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks: Vacuum or sweep up material and place into a suitable disposal container. Avoid generating dusty conditions. Provide ventilation.

Section 7 - Handling and Storage

Handling: Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Avoid breathing dust.
Storage: Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a dry area. Isolate from oxidizing materials and acids.

Section 8 - Exposure Controls, Personal Protection

Engineering Controls: Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use adequate ventilation to keep airborne concentrations low.
